Many businesses today sell only through Instagram. Boutiques, bakers, jewellery makers, home decor sellers.
It works well. The customers are there. Orders come in DM. Payment comes on UPI.
But there is a risk that many owners do not think about.
The page is not really yours. It is on someone else's platform. If the account gets blocked or hacked your business stops that day. Your followers, your chats and your product photos are all inside that one account.
We are not saying leave Instagram. Keep it. It brings customers.
We are saying add a place that belongs to you. A place where your products, your customer list and your orders stay with you even if something happens to the account.
Make it safe
- Buy your own domain name. It is your address on the internet. Buy it in your own name.
- Make a small store website. Your best products, prices and a way to order. That is enough to start.
- Save your customer list outside Instagram. Name and number of people who bought from you. With their permission.
- Put the website link in your bio. Slowly your regular customers will start ordering from there.

- Keeping all product photos only on the phone and on Instagram
- Using the same password everywhere
- Not turning on two step login on Instagram
- Waiting for a problem before making a backup
A website gives you one more thing. People can find you on Google. A person who has never seen your page can search for handmade rakhi online and reach you.
On Instagram only your followers see you. On Google new people find you.
