We built a matrimony platform for a community.

This kind of project is different from a shop or a company website. Here the families are trusting you with a very personal decision. Parents are using it. Elders are using it. Many of them are not used to apps.

So the main goal was trust.

Families should feel safe while using it. They should feel that the profiles are real. They should be able to find a match from their own community and sub-community without searching through thousands of profiles.

The platform is built around verified profiles. It has a mobile app also because most members use only the phone.

What is inside

  1. Verified member profiles. A profile is checked before other members can see it.
  2. Search by community and sub-community. Families can look where they want to look.
  3. Match suggestions. The platform suggests profiles that fit the given preferences.
  4. A mobile app for members. Members can see new profiles and messages on the phone.

What we were careful about

  • Showing phone numbers openly to everyone
  • Making the sign up form so long that parents leave it in the middle
  • Using small letters that elders cannot read
  • Keeping old profiles live after the person is married

We kept the words simple and the letters big. We kept the steps few. A parent should be able to make a profile without calling their son or daughter for help.

Privacy settings are clear. The member decides who can see the photo and the contact.

What to do in the next 7 days

  • Day 1: Write down how members find a match today. On paper, on WhatsApp or in a register.
  • Day 2: List the details that families always ask for.
  • Day 3: Decide who will check a profile before it is shown.
  • Day 4 to 7: Talk to ten families and ask what would make them trust an online platform.
